Steve Horelick bio

A 2007 EMMY nominee, game composer and musical adventurer, Steve Horelick currently composes original soundtracks for the large and small screen from his facility, Steve H Music, and in the state-of-the-art studios at the Manhattan Producers Alliance.

His credits include more than 350 TV episodes, encompassing such award- winning productions as PBS's “Reading Rainbow”, “Shining Time Station” and “The Puzzle Place.” His film scores for HBO's baseball documentary "When It Was a Game" earned him his first EMMY nomination.

In addition to commercial credits for top brands such as Volkswagen, Ford, and IBM, Steve has received recognition from the New York Film Festival, GRAMMY Awards, and multiple award nods from the advertising industry. In addition to dozens of original TV scores for the likes of Lifetime, “Monsters”, Dr. Ruth (really!!), “People Magazine on TV” and ABC After School specials, he’s also been the composer/arranger/lyricist go-to guy for a long list of elite artists including Bob James, George Duke, John McLaughlin and the Paul Winter Consort, Chaka Khan, Bobby McFerrin, Larry Coryel, and Peabo Bryson.

Steve’s passion for exploring new musical frontiers sparked his escape to NYC from his native Pittsburgh to compose and perform “avant-garde” electronic music on his custom-made Buchla Series 200 synthesizer. With his critically acclaimed "garage band" the, Electronic Art Ensemble, he performed “controlled noise” to astonished audiences in the US and Canada.

These experiments proved to be the stepping stone to some unexpected places, including the then-fledgling show educational show, “Reading Rainbow”. Twenty years later, “Reading Rainbow”, opening as always with Steve’s theme song, is one of the most adult-watched children's shows ever produced – and with Steve's original music and songs backing every episode, “Reading Rainbow” has won the EMMY for Outstanding Children's Series 8 out of the last 12 years.

But Steve doesn’t just hear music. He’s also got a head for the business, educational, and innovative opportunities that surround it. An Apple Certified Trainer specializing in Apple’s Logic Pro music/audio production software, Steve goes coast to coast leading training seminars and certifying new Logic professionals. His Logic Pro video tutorials are distributed by macProVideo.com. Titles including “
UltraBeat Unleashed,”  “Logic’s Plug-ins: Unplugged" ,"Synthesis with Sculpture”, “Sound - and Why it Sounds That Way",  “Logic Tips & Tricks”, Steve H's Masterclass and Logic's Mastering ToolBox are among the most popular Logic titles available.

In 2004 he founded Editorsmusic.com as a unique resource enabling media professionals to search for, license, and download unusual production music tracks. Now those tracks appear worldwide in TV, videos and film. As always, teaching is Steve latest and oldest passion, leading a popular course in songwriting and film scoring at New York’s City College.

Just to keep in shape – and to keep everything in perspective -- Steve is a member of the Hastings-on-Hudson Fire Police and a volunteer interior attack firefighter.  Check our Steve's personal site at:

Jonathan Perl bio

Jonathan Perl is an Apple Certified Trainer for Logic Pro, and has been teaching Apple’s Logic Certification courses troughout the US. He is the founder and President of the New York City Logic Pro Users Group (NYLPUG).

As a teacher
Jonathan is the author of the most comprehensive training DVD for Logic Pro available today:
Inside Logic Pro 7.1.  Published by award-winning training providers Magnet Media, his 7-hour training DVD is one of the most popular titles in their acclaimed Digital Media Training Series. It offers a thorough examination of Logic Pro being used for professional work, and also offers a basic grounding in synthesis, signal flow and other important topics.  He also authored  90-minute Logic training for Magnet Media’s Zoom-In DVD Magazine for professionals: this tutorial focuses specifically on using Logic Pro to work with picture.

For over ten years, Jonathan has been the Associate Director of the
Sonic Arts Center at The City College of New York.  He has shaped the growth and direction of this unique 4-year BFA training program in Music and Technology, offered to a select group of talented young producers from all over the world. He has developed a real-world, project-based approach to training, and has personally developed tutorials and curricula to support this approach. His philosophy is to bridge the gap between technological prowess on the one hand, and students’ creative, musical and intuitive natures on the other, illuminating and stimulating the growth of both simultaneously.

As a composer and musician
Jonathan has always embraced the rapid rise of digital audio technology, while striving to maintain the organic connection between listener, musician, and music. His work as half of the collaborative duo
Wired Planet is an example of the bridge between humanity and technology: vocalists from around the globe singing in native languages, ethnic drums and percussion, Eastern European wind instruments, American jazz players, and spoken word – all within a framework of synthesized, sampled and otherwise manipulated sounds, rhythms and textures.

As a consultant:
Jonathan has assisted a diverse range of artists, composers and producers, such as Pat Metheny, Shep Pettibone (Madonna), John Cale (Velvet Underground), Angelo Montrone (Anita Baker), Richard Einhorn, Earl Rose, Graham Haynes, and Stuart Matthewman (Sade).

In a previous life, Jonathan accompanied dance companies and schools with his improvisational piano: Alvin Ailey, Jose Limon, and many others.

In addition to his active teaching and training schedule, Jonathan is currently providing underscore and sound effects for video projects, as well as consulting with composers for film and video.   More importantly, he is raising his family in the still-beautiful, if not over-developed, Mid-Hudson Valley, in New Paltz, NY.  Take our courses - subsidize our baby-sitters!
